You will have to take this for what it's worth, since I probably don't understand.
Last year when TDAmeritrade would not let anyone buy or sell, not even transfer, I requested half of my stock certificates. That was my only way out of TDA at the time. Trading has resumed at TDA so no worries. There was a few hundred dollar fee. But for a few hundred million shares it was worth it. If I thought it was the only hope of ever getting my money back it sure as heck would be worth it. Those are now in my safe but can be sent to Joel or anyone else that wants to buy them in the future. I can also put them in an account with another broker at anytime. Not selling any right now so in the fireproof safe they sit.
Though it did require 1 phone call, cumbersome and arduous it was not. It was actually pretty darn easy. Took about 10 minutes and I got the certs in a few days Fed Ex.
