It's legal to advertise your stock. It's not legal to advertise it and say you DIDN'T. So maybe SEC is investigating allegations that the company paid for promotion and didn't acknowledge it? Not that I believe they did, I'm just saying that could be a possible thing to investigate.
Whenever a company has big management changes like AVXL has, there are always disgruntled people who might decide to cause trouble by saying they're whistle-blowers. Have no idea what's going on, but also a great way to knock down a stock is to make allegations of dishonesty.
I'll be bitterly disappointed if it turns out management did something wrong, but remember -- SEC moves very slowly, and what they may want to see could be something from the PREVIOUS management, which people say enriched itself with no regard for shareholders.
