3 million bucks= slap on wrist. They could more than make that back on one naked short.
But that does show that in a way the daily FINRA data really is useless -- because these crooks are going to report whatever they feel like, not what the reality is. (please keep posting it anyway, AlanC)
Utterly disgusting that we can't get accurate daily figures on genuine short positions (at least, the legal shorts, not the illegal naked shorts). Technology is there, the crooks just don't want to disclose the information.
As far as those twice-monthly reports of short positions being meaningful in any way, I don't believe them to be accurate. That article shows why. When people say "there's not a significant short position in [stock X]" I call BS. We have no way of knowing whether the figures are anywhere near accurate, because of these crooks not reporting correctly.
