Drano, Regarding whether your shares held in street name were voted or not, If you voted by proxyvote, YES they were counted the way you voted. If you did not vote, the broker is not going to guess what you would like to do. Hence the non-votes. Also, to the extent a small institutional holder may not care who is elected to the board, those will be non-votes, except in regard to the quorum.
