Actually, it's not inside info when a company tells shareholders that a financial report will be released by the deadline. On the other hand, if they were to reveal details about the contents, other than generalized statements like "things are looking good" or "we're very pleased with the progress", they could be in violation. Detailed contents are not supposed to be revealed prior to being turned over to the general public in a press release.
