1549 EDT - Financial sponsors are getting a lot of deals done in the telecom industry. The volume of sponsor-backed telecom deals reached $26.1B year-to-date, the highest level for this period since 2012, when it was $31.6B, according to Dealogic. Global sponsor-backed telecom entry M&A volume accounted for 31%, or $8.1B, of total sponsor-backed telecom M&A so far in 2015. Global investment firm LetterOne Holdings' announcement that it plans to buy a stake in Oi SA (OIBR, OIBR4.BR), a Brazilian telecom company, for $4B, would be the largest sponsor-backed deal to date, Dealogic says.
