But the shorts dont own the shares - I do - By definition, the shorts sold something they do not own.
I think the issue is that the company might receive 2,800,000 votes all from owners who consider themselves long and favorable to the future prospects of the company
Assume that half of my shares were real issued shares and half are created by a short transaction.
My valid votes are equal to my "invalid votes" and they will all be voted based on what is best for me and the company long term.
My guess is that the company just accepts the results and takes the percentage generated; however the percentage is generated.
