iPad update...
There was an OS update waiting for me this morning. Since Safari was not working anyway, I figured, "Why not?" It was a lengthy update and at first did not seem to have fixed the problem. It was not giving me an error message and trying to reload pages like before, but it was taking forever to load a page. However, after an hour or so it now seems to be working much better.
Edit: Now it works OK sometimes and sometimes it takes FOREVER to load a page. I think I'll take Drano's advice and see where the nearest Apple Store is located...
