They are doing what they are paid to do. They pumped CTIX on the way up and their handlers made money selling near the highs, then they shorted down and still are shorting all the while bashing CTIX trying to get folks to sell. ( If they could convince those selling to buy one they are pumping at the moment so much the better.) The problem they have is longs who recognize the potential of CTIX are not selling rather they continue to buy. The wash trades yesterday were very obvious and if the truth be known and those trades were eliminated we likely would have been in the 50%+ short range once again. Smart money is buying and taking full advantage of the shorts problem. Trapped animals have been known to gnaw off their legs to escape and the shorts are indeed trapped here.
