That would be a great question for Dr. Menon. Different drugs metabolize differently. Prurisol acts through immune modulation and PRINS reduction. More about PRINS:
"PRINS (psoriasis associated RNA induced by stress) is a long non-coding RNA. Its expression is induced by stress, and it may have a protective role in cells exposed to stress. It is over-expressed in the skin of patients with psoriasis.[1] It regulates G1P3, a gene encoding a protein with anti-apoptotic effects in keratinocytes. Overexpression of PRINS may contribute to psoriasis via the down-regulation of G1P3.[2]"

"Menon modestly credits his success at identifying winning drug candidates to "looking with an open mind" at both physical binding assays and the animals given experimental compounds. He describes Prurisol as "an anti-inflammatory drug, but not a typical one, although it has some of the same characteristics." It is an immune modulator, he describes, explaining, "When people get distressed, their immunity is going down. Some proteins released at that time will have an impact on disease, such as psoriasis, recurring in those people." He believes this drug can influence the balance of factors that stimulate hyperproliferation of cells, and so help people with psoriasis."
