Very easy to do. If you feel the hard drive is on it's way out.
you can buy an external drive like a passport and back up your pictures and favorites on to it. then when you buy your new machine you can restore the info.

or if you don't need anything that large you can buy a flash drive but I think the passport drive gives you a lot of bang for the buck
