C&W Networks, the wholesale arm of telecoms provider CWC, has announced that Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks (ASN) has completed the commissioning of the Pacific Caribbean Cable System (PCCS). The 6,000 km submarine cable connects Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Aruba, Curacao, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, terminating in Jacksonville, Florida. C&W Networks said the 80 Terabits-per-second capacity of the PCCS submarine network will serve to dramatically boost connectivity and substantially increase the availability of broadband services in the region. PCCS is C&W Networks’ fourth international submarine cable landing in the US, and its third in Florida.
PCCS is owned by a group of telecommunications operators including Cable & Wireless Communications, Setar, Telconet, Telefonica Global Solutions and United Telecommunication Services (UTS).
