there were fears of deflation after printing money like crazy did not yield the historically expected inflation- as noted banks and corp's hoarded the cash and did not put it to work in the economy -having the same effect as lowering the economic multiplier (how many times money passes from one person to another via transactions-necessary for a consumer driven economy) except for buying back their own stock which had the effect of rising stock prices
