It isn't the number of shares, and not even the dollar value, which makes Mr. Bordynuik a swindler. The point is Mr. Bordynuik was unloading those 850,000 shares at around $1.40 while he was also telling investors that everything was going swimmingly. Mr. Bordynuik represented that there were two processors running in full production, producing $10/bbl fuel which was being sold for the price of diesel. Mr. Bordynuik was selling shares while telling big bald-faced lies to investors. Trying to minimize Mr. Bordynuik's crime by painting it in terms of shares on the ask today is just using a bad metric.
A person buying a used car for $10,000 won't make the news but a bank robber stealing $10,000 will. But to say that robbing a bank is therefore no worse than buying used car is ridiculous.
