is a leading cause of death in the United States. It is a serious lung condition and a key risk factor for lung cancer, independent of smoking. There is no cure and no way to reverse the damage done by the condition. Unfortunately, the reasons that some patients with COPD progress to lung cancer are not known. The goal of the study was to identify molecular pathways involved in the development and progression of COPD-associated lung cancer. Illumination of these pathways could potentially contribute towards development of improved therapeutic strategies for patients with COPD.
