No, they're the ones shorting and day trading. They pump to keep you paralyzed, holding, so they have bagholders to stabilize it while they make money on the volatility. Probably insiders who know when the a.s.'s are coming, so they pump to get a rise in pps so they can sell and wait for the news to hit.
It's all very orchestrated. And shorts are a convenient excuse. They're the shorts, and they know they don't cause the drop in price,
But they know in advance it's coming, so they can take advantage of it.
