So rapid has the uptake of 4K TVs (and, ironically, ‘Retina’ tablets and computers! (NTEK!) been, in fact, that analysts are now starting to see the delivery of 4K UHD as a potential key sales attraction on the content side of the AV industry.
Just this week, for instance, BT in the UK announced a UHD sports channel, prompting Strategy Analytics’ Director of Connected Home Devices David Watkins to state that BT could well gain a commercial advantage from its UHD move: “ Being first to market with a UHD sports channel may just tempt a few more customers from BT’s rivals to jump ship.” Strategy Analytics added that it believes BT’s UHD service could almost double the platform’s subscriber base over 2-3 years.
