In Europe 4K TV sets are getting cheaper.
There is a Philips 4K 50" Smart TV for less than $1100 now, which is way cheaper than the 42" HD (non-smart) set I bought some 7 years ago.
But I wonder if 4K streaming has a great future. There will be a limited market I suppose, but since these new 4K sets have engines to upscale HD into virtual 4K, I wonder if the general people will pay an additional fee to see a film in native 4K as opposed to upscaled.
Nowadays you have to pay for HD streaming movies already via the cable company. I also doubt that many will buy the really large sets to see the advantage of 4K. And these are still expensive.
As for Netflix, in Europe a subscription costs $9.90 a month for two sets (HD), and $13 for 4K on 4 sets. No additional PPV. And the content list so far has, well, around 1500-1700 titles depending on the country, all subtitled/dubbed.
So UF has a way to go to become the next Netflix as some pumpers already dream.
But it doesn't need to become the next Netflix for me. Reaching a PPS of 10 cents this year would already make me happy, again.
Just my one and a half NTEK share ...
