Netflix adds more users than expected, shares leap

Netflix Inc. added a better-than-expected 4.88 million streaming subscribers in the March quarter, as the video distributor continued to benefit from its aggressive overseas expansion.
Shares, up 47% over the past three months, rose 12% to $533 in after-hours trading. Netflix had projected 4.05 million additions in the first quarter.
For the current quarter, Netflix projects a profit of 26 cents a share, compared with the consensus of 90 cents a share.
The streaming-video service has launched an aggressive international expansion as growth slows in the U.S. Netflix, which started its expansion in Canada in 2010, has said it plans to complete its world-wide expansion by the end of next year. In the most recent period, it started operations in Cuba, Australia and New Zealand.
