The purpose of slides are to evacuate patrons in an emergency.
The variable is how many passengers are on the plane.
So if x number of passengers require 5 slides to be tested then why can't we scale x down to where only 2 slides are required to be tested. Giving us close to a 95% chance of slide deployment success. The challenge on the crew would be the same just scaled down.
After all. The test is for the crew. Not the slides.
