I think the only way to avoid those brokerage fee's would be to buy your shares from the company directly. Someone please feel free to correct me if I am wrong here. Also most of those brokerage fee's change based on the amount of shares bought.
IE... USAA charges $8.95/per trade up to a 1k share amount. The fee keeps rising after that. What I did was broke down the math and found it was cheaper to buy in 10k blocks (again that was with USAA). Some other brokers are cheaper and some are even more expensive.
