I wasn't around any nuclear fuel. The nuclear fuel in the reactor core is inaccessible except during refueling, which I was not involved with. The spent nuclear fuel in the fuel pool is under more than 40 feet of water to shield personnel from the lethal radiation levels near the fuel. New nuclear fuel that hasn't undergone fission emits very low radiation levels that are not considered harmful except for long-term exposures. I spent maybe 2 minutes near new fuel modules just so I could examine the amazing construction involved.

I sampled and analyzed reactor coolant on a daily basis for 20+ years and received far less radiation exposure than your typical airline pilot or pack-a-day cigarette smoker would over the same period.

I know you were making a joke, but it was based on a flawed assumption.
