I believe the slide was removed from the plane....as were the others that deployed....to protect them from being damaged by the winds (those slides are to be re-packed and used again, so you don't want them getting abused).
Remember that firestream had a call of nature that prompted her(?) to leave right after the first slide came off the plane.
(and I say "her", because if firestream were a "he", I think he would have taken care of business standing there with one hand while still deftly snapping pictures with the other. LOL....been there.....done that).
So no, there was no ditching exercise that night, but that really means nothing.....as ditching is truly just an "exercise" and not a "test".
(You see, the FAA figures that while the slide is deployed....and since it has to be taken off the plane to be re-packed anyway.....they might as well go ahead and give some "free" on-the-spot training. Why let a golden opportunity go to waste?).
