It could have been worse. What if BLTA switched thoe faulty slides out with new slides and put the old ones aside to be put back on the plane for proving flights. If an emergency happened later on, those slides would not have worked. IMO, its probably better these were on, got identified as faulty, and replaced compared to the alternative scenario.
