That was the part about the poor housekeeping.
But hey, everybody has to have pets!
Bet they are fun to sleep with under the covers, all wiggly and such.
And when you spill your beer, and leave food about, they clean it up for you! Brilliant!
It could just be a personal version of going green without any of those nasty cleaning agents, and pesky antibacterial soaps.
