U.S. stocks rallied Wednesday,
propelling the S&P 500 index higher
for the first time in six sessions.
A rebound in crude-oil prices, which have weighed on stocks in recent days, and an upbeat U.S. labor-market report, fueled the bounce.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 212.88 points, or 1.2%, to 17584.52. The S&P 500 rose 23.29 points, or 1.2%, to 2025.90 and the Nasdaq Composite Index gained 57.73 points, or 1.3%, to 4650.47.
The gains for the indexes were the biggest since Dec. 18.
