admitted to the Union on December 11, 1816. Though we often think of something or someone having a birthday, this occasion is called Statehood Day. To celebrate Statehood Day many different organizations around the state are holding events on December 9, 2011, since December 11 falls on a Sunday this year. Some of the events that are happening are listed below. The organizations hosting these events are excellent sources of information on Indiana, so even if you can’t make it to the events on the 9th, you should still take a day and visit these places to learn more about Indiana and its history.
