Don't think so...doesn't begin to explain the vast amount of time spent in his 'devotion' to his miserable cause...who would do that , if not for vengeance, jealousy or profit[?]. As with most other forms of mental illness , even dementia has its limits...unless there is a reward in sight. Even 'rats' (which would seem a fitting comparison in this instance) can be trained to pursue a task over a prolonged period , based on the 'rewards system'.
