Pittsburgh's "Snow Dragon"
in Buffalo the week.
Its name sounds like something from Lord of the Rings, and the logo on the side features a fire breathing black dragon, but the "Snow Dragon" trailer isn't much to look at from the outside. What happens inside is another story.
A nine million BTU burner keeps 1,500 gallons of water hot at 140 degrees Fahrenheit. This, according to CBS, can melt more than 20 dump truck loads of snow per hour.
Using a front loader, the company scoops snow into the trailer where it melts. The hot water is filtered, then used to melt more snow nearby. New York City uses similar machines to melt snow and dump it into storm drains.
