This was just one more in the logical succession of events.
One of the things I found as a big red flag was Hoye joining the board of SKTO. This finally had created a link between BBIO and SKTO that the authorities could use to take it down. And anyone affiliated with BBIO would be at risk when it happens. Apel probably saw the writing on the wall and ran as fast as he could.
It wouldn't surprise me if he helps the Feds crack down on the remaining parties.
