I just want to show Janice how to fix her sentence:
I haven't consulted Strunk and White in many years. It's an excellent style book, but language does change.
When you have two independent clauses (complete sentences) with a coordinating conjunction (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) between them, you will place a comma before that conjunction.
Here's another example:
The bashers posted on KMAG all day . But they couldn't prevent Jeff Reid from uplisting.
The underlined portions are the independent clauses.
The example should read as:
The bashers posted on KMAG all day, but they couldn't prevent Jeff Reid from uplisting.
