A super zoom camera like the Canon PowerShot SX50HS with his super 24-1200mm lens will do it (up to 50x zoom optical). You have less weight to carry and the image stabilization is extremely effective. Image quality sure is lower, but still good enough. Did you see my pictures at lieHub. Many of them are done with this camera. It can do crisp and sharp pictures handheld at 1200mm (50x zoom) due to its extremely effective image stabilization (manual mode with aperture f/8 and exposure 1/40) of a half moon. Yes you hear right: sharp pictures at 1200mm with an exposure of 1/40. You won't be able to beat that with a DSLR.
