Rocky Mountain Cannabis Convention:

Pipe Dreams

A A A Comments ( 0 ) By  Susan Froyd Thursday, Jul 8 2010

Pot-culture mover  Mateo Pifaaso (yes, it’s an alias, but don’t we all have something to hide?) doesn’t flinch an inch when he says that the intent of this weekend’s first-ever  Rocky Mountain Cannabis Convention and Wellness Expo is to “bring a little class to the grass.” The two-day con, which begins today from 2 to 9 p.m. and continues tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Colorado Convention Center , 700 14th Street, is designed to legitimize Colorado’s burgeoning medical marijuana industry. “Come and see what we voted for,” Pifaaso says, noting that visitors will find everything from high-profile guest speakers to aisles and aisles of health and wellness and counterculture exhibitors and dispensary representatives.

But RMCC’s not-to-miss centerpiece has to be tonight’s tongue-in-cheek Stiletto Hippie fashion show, which Pifaaso describes as a showcase for “the new era of the hippie.” Featuring a hodgepodge of local designers using natural and organic hemp and cotton fabrics, as well as local and celebrity models (including Beverly Hills NORML executive director  Cheryl Shuman , whom Pifaaso calls “super classy and a good-looking dame”), the event kicks off at 7 p.m. And then there are the stilettos, which represent the show’s modern take on the hippie ethos. “Some of our hippies can't wear stilettos, so they'll have to carry them,” notes Pifaaso. Put that in your bowl and smoke it.

Admission to the RMCC ranges from $20 for a daily pass to a $60 two-day VIP package; visit http://rmccdenver.com for tickets and information.
Fri., July 9, 2-9 p.m.; Sat., July 10, 10 a.m.-7 p.m., 2010
