Heading away for a golf weekend in Kingwood TX for the 32nd year in a row w/ 16 of my golf buds tomorrow. Pretty lucky to find that many long term friends that also play quality golf.
Anyway, since I won't be messing with a computer until next week, I wanted to send an early Veterans Day thank you to all vets. My Dad, my hero, was a Naval Aviator and flew torpedo bombers in WWII off jeep carriers, transferred to being a fighter pilot and had a squadron of F4 Phantoms, was Ops Officer aboard the Oriskany during Vietnam and then headed up the F4/F8 programs for the Navy and had to give briefings to McNamara. He did it all and never spoke much about his experiences. Only found out the week before he died that he had to crash land on Iwo Jima because his torpedo didn't deploy and they wouldn't let him land on the carrier. While there, he conned a Press armband so he could go out with the Marines and saw first hand how they had to use flamethrowers to clean out the caves. Not hard to understand not wanting to talk about things like that. He died of a brain tumor so that is a main reason Kevetrin working is so dear to my heart.
Many vets of that era, "the greatest generation the USA has produced", as thought by many had a hard time relating to others and kept things pretty much bottled up. I found a song that is sad in it's message but beautiful in it's sound that some may find touching. Go to youtube and search by typing - Michael Ball the greatest man I never knew. MB has been a long time London musical star (what is the equiv of Broadway in London?) and is a great performer. On a lighter side, if you like Cowboy songs the best I have heard is Dave Stamey and his songs "Buckskin horse", "Come ride with me" "Buckaroo man" and "The Bandit Joaquin". Not to everybody's taste but I sure do like him. He's not country, he's cowboy.
Again, thank you to all vets who served us all so valiantly. America is not "The land of the free and the home of the brave" but is really "The land of the free because of the brave."
