Great story. Takes me back to using a wiz-wheel to calculate fuel based off of an estimated burn rate, and using the accelerate to the north, decelerate to the south mag compass rules!
Our aircraft now calculate all of that stuff - makes you wonder what would happen if the crap hit the fan and we had to calculate this stuff on our own...
Kudos to you, Sir, for all you have done in the field. The proprioceptive system is great for flying. I STILL don't understand how the early airmail pilots flew in the clouds by the seat of their pants. Tell you what - when this stock pops and we end up at the Inaugural Flight Bash, I'll do a rental check out somewhere up there and we'll have to go fly something. Last time I did the Hudson River Transition was in a flight of five UH-60L Blackhawks - I'd love to do it again!
