Certainly there hasn't been any "pumping" around here lately--just grim reapers.
Can you hear it on the rails? From the one direction you can begin to detect the loudening mechanical audibles of a train, gathering momentum--the steel wheels have become heated by the friction from spinning expensive 1400 lb. iron wheels against the iron rails--traction beginning--the metallic odor and steam--work being done. Momentum to increase.
From the other direction of the rails it is not methodical or mechanical, nor is it deliberate--but it is reactionary, defensive, ad lib and wonkish. From this other direction you can hear a collective "WTFDWDN?
