NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Shares of Bluebird Bio Inc. BLUE +60.14% jumped 64% in premarket trade Monday after the gene therapy company said that it had success treating two patients with an inherited blood disorder. The preliminary data on its gene therapy treatment, called LentiGlobin, showed that it was able to successfully replace non-functional genes with functional ones, leading to beneficial health results within two weeks. The company has begun another study that enrolls 15 patients.
