A retail investor is someone who buys shares on the open market. we are not buying our shares directly from the company, but from another investor. So it is correct to say that retail investors have not put one point directly into the company. Some investors, like those who hold lines of credit, are buying their shares directly from the company in order that the company may generate needed capital.
