Large liquid names. Easy things like SPY, JPM, XOM, CAT, SLV, GLD, USO, etc. Stay away from leveraged ETF's. Definitely do not touch futures or options at this stage, there is too much leverage and little room for error.

Keep everything small. It takes at least 2 years to be consistently winning more than losing, so look at it as like graduate school. Along those lines you will need to view your account during that time as tuition fees because most people, myself included, will blow out the account at least once through bad trading.

Lastly, I highly recommend signing up for inthemoneystocks.com which is only 50 bucks a month but is the best in the business at teaching technical analysis.
