It was explained in the 10K that the new condensers failed. Why did that Happen?
As it was stated the condensers are used for both heating and cooling applications.
Condensers that are used for heating applications transfer heat to what ever is being run through the condenser. Pre-heating HTF would be one application.
Condensers that are used for Cooling Applications dissipate heat from whatever is being run through the condenser. Circulating water to cool equipment is one application. These are typically air or water cooled.
Since a Condenser transfers or dissipates heat, It has to expand and contract to handle two different, extreme temperature ranges. Some of the condensers maybe inside or some outside for heating and cooling respectively.
If used to heat HTF, cold HTF would be pumped from outside into the condenser to heat it up. For Cooling, Hot Stuff is pumped outside into the condenser to cool it down.
In either case, the extremely cold weather caused the condensers to expand and contract more than they could handle and they failed. The stitch welds are supposed to allow for the expansion and contraction to occur without breaking.
The fact that ALL of the new condensers failed is very strong evidence of a manufacturing defect, as was described by the company.
