Although I don't have experience working with the SEC, I have worked a lot with US Customs. They basically think of themselves as "God with a badge" and anything said/done to them basically puts a target on you for the coming months or moves you to the end of the line (and we all know what government lines are like!)

Given John's history of working with the SEC, it wouldn't surprise me if he gave these 2 guys (and those CC'd) the heads up saying he was going to send an aggressive letter and to ignore the tone, just consider the content. Otherwise, I'm not sure I agree with John's connotation and method of casting stones at the one entity that can make life hell for his company and our account valuations. I agree with his frustrations and vehement disagreement of the SEC raising suspicion of all companies in the industry, but let's not piss into the wind.
