I believe that's exactly what happened. Based on my conversation with my scottrade broker, it sounds like they were treating this as a dividend. They put a placeholder up, and wait for the payment representing the dividend's dollar amount. If the don't get the payment within 7 days, the placeholder comes down.

The company stated that the certificates would be mailed to shareholders, and not deposited with brokerages. This makes sense, as the company wasn't planning on redeeming the certificates (in shares or cash) until a later date. Now, we just need a status on the delivery of the certificates to us.
