The medical marijuana/marihuana laws in Canada are not necessarily strict, but I currently believe more investigation should be done to expand who qualifies. I have a friend who has IBS and I've heard that some states in the US offer medical marijuana for IBS, but others don't. I'm curious if he could get a prescription of medical marijuana to treat it, but it's not listed "officially" under the Canadian guidelines.
Many other illnesses and conditions are included and I personally, as a cancer survivor, am very happy that Cancer patients are included on the list. I did not smoke when I was receiving treatment, but applications using medical marijuana to prevent or reduce the symptoms of nausea due to the chemotherapy agents are definitely something I would recommend for patients dealing with such conditions.
Realistically, scientists are pulling "medicine" from the deadliest plants and animals on earth and manipulating their toxins to treat a tremendous breadth of diseases, illnesses and afflictions.
That being said, if Marijuana has properties that can be harnessed without exploitation of "at risk species" and "potentially harmful substances" then I could not urge scientists more to FULLY investigate the properties.
There is a reason that MJ has been used for thousands of years and there will be reasons why it should continue to be used and to flourish.
