thegman: Check your brokerage firm ... Mine (fidelity and Ameritrade) can transfer stock from my account to her account (assuming you both have the same brokerage firm. NO FEE. In other words, if you have an acct. at fidelity and /she has an acct. at Fidelity, its a seamless transfer.

On the other hand if you want to send her/he the stock certificates, there is a large fee (forgot the amt.)

So what happended with me, my niece just opened up a Fidelity acct. Hope this helps. It makes for a great gift. Birthday, graduation, even newborns.
