State officials have said they are prepared to move ahead with a closure plan for the landfill if the sale to TerRenova doesn't work out.
Another company -- Green Harvest Landfill LLC -- was unable to complete its bid to purchase the property more than a year ago after failing to arrange financing.
Hardigan said a contractor has already been chosen to complete permanent closure at a cost of $4.4 million, which would be paid for from a perpetual care fund that was build up by former operators of the landfill.
