Much higher incidence noted among N. Americans and N. Europeans compared to those of Asia including Japan. During WWII, meat was rationed domestically in US; sharp drop in said problem.
Also, the gluten factor: It seemed like hype to sell books. However, they've monkeyed with the genetics of wheat grown in US in line with insect and disease resistance; the tampering may be having untoward effects.
Don't forget oatmeal is a great food.
