It has been a while for me since I used to optimize websites, but for Investors Hangout to become a serious contender to take top web positioning it would, in my opinion need to take several crucial steps designed specifically for active traders, some thoughts are
(a) provide user access to Level 2 on this site
(b) provide top quality stock charting capability for technical traders
(c) stock news
(d) Ticker monitor (user selected)
There are numerous other functions that active traders may want and I am sure that this board could add a list of most desired functions. The more usable and desired functions a website has it generally follows that users will learn of the site and utilize the site resources. In order to gain website dominance on search engines the website must be optimized. An example would be that without site optimization a website is constrained to specific users, sort of like using a local phone book to find a local business or with increased user functionality and site optimization the website can position itself to be within the top 5 keyword based search results on numerous search engines, Google, Yahoo, etc.,
Algorithms and metrics have changed but a starter might be to increase user functionality while keyword optimizing the site and adding high PR link exchanges. Also consider featuring a top quality guest that exemplifies specific categories. i.e. charting (claytrader), Due Diligence expertise, legal opinions, etc., in other words ...make the board stand out by providing functionality better than what is out there now and then propel the website into top position through website optimization.
There are probably some web experts among us that could make more and better suggections.
