Also a stock can easily be disassociated from the company and it's fundamentals. There are companies that went into bankruptcy where the stock no longer represented the company (no equity basis at all) and yet they still traded as if they did. Two examples are GM and Circuit City. Both stocks did not represent the underlying companies but still traded. Alot of investors didn't even know that the stocks did NOT represent the companies at all.
