EOS is developing an in-process quality assurace (IPQA) system / Closed-loop system:

Here is a speculation:

Recall Vivek Dave saying Sigma Labs is in NDA discussion with 2 or 3 printing companies:

Vivek Dave (06/06/2013 12:09:12 PM): with regards to metal printer companies, we have talked to two of the three largest companies under NDA and these discussions are ongoing

EOS and Greg Morris has been in partnership AT LEAST since 2005:

And Greg Morris talks about augmenting machines:

"GE for instance recently signed a JTDA with Sigma labs. They are one of the players involved in monitoring what’s going on inside the equipment and being able to tell if you’re building a whole batch of these parts, if you have a problem in any one of those. So this doesn't take away the need to post inspect, but it’s something that we have to get into the machines themselves.”

Remember too that the reason Sigma uses sound is for the penetration of weld pool. Optical and pyrometers (ThermaViz) can only see the surface. Acoustic energy also delineates metallurgical, mechanical, and thermal properties and a known reliable source in the welding community. What Sigma Labs is able to do with the data, which there is an extreme amount, is sort out the important information. This takes knowledge of material properties. The sorting of information and reduction to meaningful use determines the parameters on what welding characteristics are acceptable, marginal, and not acceptable. You will hear Greg Morris in the youtube video ask how would one deal with all the information, how to leverage that information to make sure that a part comes out correct. This is the advantage of Sigma Labs and their knowledge from years of research as metallurgists at LANL.

I have looked through EOSINT and I don't see anything about a closed-loop. However, things are about to change. And like I mention, I am very confident with Sigma Labs.
