First because the SLTD chips achieve thier output by trapping sunlight longer in order to convert it, it requires a smaller surface area to achieve the same output as Sunpowers. This translates to smaller panels overall. That translates to lower manufacturing cost do savings in materials.
Now add on the fact that SLTD panels will start collecting sunlight earlier in the day and will continue to collect later in the day tha Sunpower panels are able to do.. Add on that they will be more effective throught the year as the sun changes possition and have a clear winner in the SLTD panels.
